Elwyn Shorthair

Dine artist Elwyn Shorthair was born in shiprock, New Mexico in 1988 and grew up in Teec Nos Pos, and Coppermine, Arizona. His father’s sketch book inspired him to start drawing and painting when he was in preschool. Between 2007 and 2010, Shorthair studied studio arts at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 2020, he spent four months painting in-residence on the property of Rose B Simpson and Roxanne Swentzell, getting advice and inspiration from the legendary Pueblo Artist. His other artistic influences Peterson Yazzie, David K. Johns, Howard terpning, John Coleman, and Rembrandt Van Rivne. His paintings are in private collections nationwide and his murals are enjoyed by many communities. He currently splits his time between Santa Fe, New Mexico and Page, Arizona.
