Nicolas Seurot

Nicolas Seurot is a French visual artist based in Bordeaux. Trained in visual arts, he began his career as an art director in major Parisian agencies before devoting himself fully to a personal exploration of the image. His photographic practice is not rooted in documentation, but in a search for emotional and material expression—somewhere between trace, sensation, and contemplation. Through a meticulous process of composition, printing, and material engagement, he creates works that inhabit the space between photography and painting.

His prints are made on handcrafted Japanese papers, primarily Kozo, derived from mulberry fiber. The texture, translucency, and delicacy of this material contribute directly to the emotional resonance of his images. The paper is not merely a support; it is an active element, extending the artistic gesture and giving substance to the work.

Drawing from Romantic painting as well as pictorialist photography, Nicolas Seurot positions his practice within a tradition where landscape becomes a space for reflection, silence, and introspection.

In a time saturated with commentary, he embraces a pared-down approach to art, rooted in the immediacy of aesthetic experience. Through light, restraint, and formal balance, his images invite contemplation, presence, and a renewed sensitivity to the visible world.
